About Reflux

RefluxReflux refers to the regurgitation of stomach acid into the oesophagus and is a process often triggered by rich or fatty foods, as well as carbonated drinks.

There are several risk factors for acid reflux, including pregnancy, smoking, obesity, family history and eating excessively large meals and stress.

Symptoms include severe pain in the chest, difficulty swallowing, coughing and most particularly heartburn.

Doctors can prescribe a number of treatments for reflux, such as a change of diet and a change in lifestyle, for example, managing stress or quitting smoking.

Some medicines are also available for reflux, which can be discussed with the trained pharmacists at Terry White Chemists.
